“HAPPY FRIENDSHIP DAY!”

I received a “HAPPY FRIENDSHIP DAY!” message with a picture of Lord Krishna and Sudama from my former driver. I smiled. It’s one of those days where the world forces you to grin and bear the tsunami of messages flooding your Whatsapp inbox.

This day has had such a fantastic marketing strategy, I’ve got to admit. The kind of day you find yourself wishing your friends from school, college, work, and every possible place you connected and created that special bond. You’ll even find yourself surprised to receive messages from those you probably met at a networking event or party and don’t know them at all!

This morning, while I was coaching one of my clients, it occurred to me isn’t the friendship that you seek outside begins first with yourself?

You are so eager to please your friends – best or even the casual ones. Let me ask you, when was the last time you put yourself on top of the list of the people you care to please?

You don’t want to hurt your friends. You choose your words with care and a benignness that is special to your friendship. When did you last speak to yourself with the same love and care?

Your concern for friend’s well-being is high and it matters to you that they look after themselves. When did you last display that concern for yourself?

You consider yourself a good friend, maybe a best friend to your friends. How long ago did you wander away from being your own precious best friend?

I’m not here to give you the answers however I’d like to prod you to find it yourself.

You deserve much more and owe yourself the love you share with your friends. Yes, treat your friends with extraordinary love and along the way be mindful about how are you treating yourself?

Are you YOUR best friend?

Just when I was through with writing this post, I received a text from my vegetable vendor. “Happy Friendship Day!”

Much love
