WORK – LIFE BALANCE

“I need work-life balance!”

We have heard ourselves saying this a zillion times, haven’t we? Heard it and demanded it with reasons that could be most plausible. I remember a time, I would fight to achieve it but did I? Nope, I don’t think so.

Work-Life balance is a myth. A myth created by those who are ready to ‘settle’. Hear me out. When do you need work-life balance? When you feel compromised. When you feel short-changed. When what you are doing is disorienting other parts of your life. Mostly, it sticks its head out when we are not in alignment with the purpose we are driven by.

How’s that?, you may ask.
Let me share my case in point. I hated unnecessary late hours because, as a single mum, it cut into my time of being with my little daughter. I felt the inherent need to leave what I had to rush home and ticked me off when the hours stretched into long sometimes towards unproductive results.Or as being in Senior Management where stakes are high, I was urged to be ‘available’ 24×7. Did I like that? Especially, when I was having an amazing night out with friends I hadn’t caught up with? No way! And, my cry was whine-y and incessant! I was consumed by the need to create a Work-Life balance.
So, what changed it for me or rather what did I change?
My way of looking at the lens.

What is the purpose I’m here for?
Get clarity on that.
I asked myself what am I doing and why?Is just the money I’m in for? Or is there a higher purpose? Where will it take me ahead?
If you go about doing your work with a false sense of being, you’ll miss it all. And, I certainly didn’t desire that!
I changed the dynamics. I loved what I was doing as a living. I love the people who are my family and importantly, myself. Anything, and I mean, anything that takes you away from those two things will create dis-ease.
So, my work and my family integrate themselves creating the ‘balance’ I was so fighting to claim. They’re both a part of my life now, especially, so as an entrepreneur, where it’s easier to forsake one for the other.

So, ask yourself.

Why are you doing what you are doing? Get your sense of purpose right.
How far are you willing to ‘compromise’? No one can ‘make’ you do things. You have the power to make it happen.
Why does there need to be balance, one way or the other? Things can work seamlessly into each other. Have you tried it?
It’s about knowing where to let go and where to hold on. Reflect on the energy within you. It’s an amazing barometer of your feelings.

Create and transform. The power lies within you.

Wish you a week of co-creating and infinite possibilities!

Love and light.
